Welcome to Reception’s Page!

Teacher- Miss Bean

Our theme this half-term is ‘What happens when I close my eyes at night?’ The unit will try to follow the children’s interests regarding light and dark, nocturnal animals and bedtime routines.

In phonics, we will be focusing on Phase 3 sounds. A lot of these are digraphs like ee, oo, sh, ch and th, and trigraphs such as igh, ear, and air.

We will be consolidating our understanding of number and working on processes such as subtraction and addition.

What Else?

PE this term will be on Wednesdays and will be taught by a sports coach.

Library books are collected and changed on Tuesdays.

Home/school books are collected on Mondays and returned on Fridays. Feel free to collect them in the week if you would like to read or add to them. We would like to have them on Fridays to add a little about our week in school.

We are always in need of clean, empty boxes, cartons and cardboard tubes for the children to use for model-making in the workshop area and anything you can spare would be gratefully received.

Reading and Phonics

Reading books will be changed with two new books, once a week.

Throughout the week, there are several different ways of looking at the books. You could read through the book, practise blending, spot sounds that you know, find some of the sight words that you are learning, try and remember new words that you have found etc. You could also focus more on what is happening in the story, make predictions of what might happen next, talk about the characters etc.

Reading book bands in order:lilac, pink, red, yellow, blue, green… We would like the children to confidently be reading yellow books by the END of the year.

This may be of useful for letter writing, recognition and letter sounds and names:

This shows the correct sound for each letter and the Jolly Phonics action which goes with it. Excuse the giggling!
